1980 Peel Session repeat on 6 Music **EDIT**

Post by Keg » Mon Mar 03, 2008 8:32 pm

Marc Riley on 6 Music is going to play the TVPs one and only Peel session on his show on Thursday 6th March. It's a regular part of his show, repeating a session from the vaults. Tune in from 7 - 9:30 pm.

I heard 'Silly Girl' which sounded amazing! Did Mr. Riley play anymore TVP's after that?

In fact, can anyone tell me which other songs were recorded at the Peel session?

Here you are...

1. Silly Girl
2. A Picture of Dorian Gray
3. La Grande Illusion
4. Look Back in Anger

Originally recorded 20 Aug 1980, first broadcast 1 Sep 1980.

Source: Sky box > Sony Minidisc > WaveLab for EQ / trimming.
Encoded at 160 kbs (same as broadcast source)

After extracting the tracks and posting the download link, I noticed that the sound quality was rather bass-heavy and muddy... I then realised that I'd inadvertently pressed a button on the Minidisc to change the sound quality on playback that added bass and treble. I've ripped the tracks again with a clean sound and created a new download link. Apologies for the cock-up. Please do download them again; you'll notice a big difference.

I gather than Mac users may encounter problems with the zip format, so here's individual download links:

If anyone is interested I'm just in the process of ripping a tape of the entire 2 hour show where this was first broadcast. Quality of the recording will be lower than the 6music re-broadcast of the session tracks, but you get the whole show complete with Peel links and other tracks.

Tracklisting of the show is:

The Cravats: Precinct
Angelic Upstarts: Guns For The Afghan Rebels
Jimmy Pursey: Lucky Man
Cockney Rejects: Cockney Rip Off (session)
TV Personalities: La Grande Illusion (session)
Simple Minds: I Travel
Dead Kennedys: Your Emotions
The Ruts: West One (Shine On Me )
A Certain Ratio: Shack Up
Cockney Rejects: Blockbuster
Brian Eno: Seven Deadly Fins
Jah Walton: Top Ranking
The Everly Brothers: Be Bop A Lula
TV Personalities: Look Back In Anger (session)
UB40: Burden Of Shame
Twig & The Kicks: The Boy Who Sold His Dreams
Comsat Angels: Missing In Action
Neon: Don't Eat Bricks
Cockney Rejects: I Wanna Be A Star (session)
Naggo Waugh: Natty Not Livin' Easy
The B-52s: Private Idaho
Dead Kennedys: Kill The Poor
TV Personalities: Silly Girl (session)
Little Johnny Taylor: How Can A Broken Man Survive (plays the start of the wrong track..)
Lilliput: Die Matrosen
Roky Erickson & The Aliens: Night Of The Vampire
Cockney Rejects: 15 Years (session)
The Fall: Totally Wired (the new single from The Fall "..you've probably been waiting for this since 10 o'clock..")
Stiff Little Fingers: Nobody's Hero (live)
Renaldo & The Loaf: A Medical Man
TV Personalities: The Picture Of Dorian Gray (session)
UB40: Signing Off
