The weekend of 13-14 April is shaping up to be something of a revival of the alternative 80s, with Amelia Fletcher on the 13th in Brixton (see my other post) and the other seriously messed up Daniel, Johnston, playing the
Barbican Centre on the 14th — all we need now is the Bevis Frond and Alex Chilton to complete the set.
Everyone who'd booked tickets for a couple of previously cancelled gigs has been given tickets to this, so tickets are
very limited - at the time of writing there were about 20 left. It will also feature a showing of the documentary
The Devil & Daniel Johnston.

Ah I LOVE Daniel Johnston.

Yes, I know I referred to 13-14 as a weekend when it's actually Thursday/Friday. Sue me. However, the
FortunaPop free event at Notting Hill Arts Centre (Tender Trap, Cannonball Jane and Simon Fanfarlo)
is at the weekend.

Daniel managed a grand total of 4 songs before wandering offstage. A very odd night; the weirdnes not alleviated by former Melody Maker editor Everett True wandering on stage at one point between support sets and belting a cover of 'Happy All the Time' into the mic.

I've been listening to D Johnston's "Rejected Unknown" LP today, which I borrowed from a friend. Great stuff. Very Treacy-esque in places.
