Tender Trap gigs

Tender Trap will be playing their first live gigs for about three years, on 13th April at The Windmill, Blenheim Gardens, Brixton, and Saturday 15th April at Notting Hill Arts Club, 21 Notting Hill Gate. Free. Doors open 4pm, entry first come first served.

For those who don't recognise the name, they're the last survivors (beside Mary Lou Lord, Evan Dando & Dan Treacey) of the pre-britpop/pre-grunge twee indie pop scene; basically the front half of Heavenly grafted onto the back half of the Magnetic Fields. (In the unlikely event that you read this, sincere apologies Amelia for that metaphor.)

Sounds great! One of my lasting gig-related regrets is missing seeing Heavenly in Preston in 1995 or so, thanks a fickle mate who happened to be the only driver among us. It still makes me seethe today, thinking about it. I never got another opportunity to see them.

One of my great conversation-stoppers in the (admittedly ever shrinking) circle of people who'd be impressed by it, is that I seem to be just about the only person who saw both Heavenly & the Soft Boys live.

If you (or anyone) wants the ideal christmas present for pre-Britpop indie fans, you can buy olive trees hand-grown by Cathy Rogers (the other half of Heavenly) at Nudo Italia.

Who playing?

SHRAG
Expect jagged post punk, ragged electro pop and a bundle of ramshackle, runaway energy, alongside nods to everyone from Le Tigre to Penetration. Their debut album Shrag was released on WIAIWYA earlier this year and has garnered comparisons to Love is All, Gang of Four, B52s, The Long Blondes and more.
“A spectacularly bitter indie girls-set-on-stun dual vocal attack, in what is one of the better bands to juxtapose schmindie twee and angered literary abstraction since 1990s unsung legends Prolapse.” (The Guardian)

TENDER TRAP
That would be us. Punk rock for girls.

ARTHUR AND MARTHA
Arthur and Martha are an electronic pop duo, by bringing together their rag-tag collection of moogs, melodicas and an antique drum-machine, they pen the songs for the happy robots to dance to. This is a rare live show to support the release of their debut album ‘Navigation’ which will be released on Happy Robots in the spring.
“a British spin on The Postal Service, or Aphex Twin remixing the contents of NME’s seminal ’C86’ tape” (NME)
